The Thought of The Night- “Revenge Is Self-Consuming”

The Thought of The Night- “Revenge Is Self-Consuming”

10/29/2020

It is past my usual bedtime.

It’s been a long time since I wrote something on this “thought of the night” series on my WordPress blog. The last time I wrote something like this blog post was in 2017. It goes to show that I lack consistency in my hobbies.

Hobbies are for relaxation and unwinding in leisure, but a bit of consistency goes a long way.

But, anyway…

Today I will talk about how I felt vengeful at certain times in the past, but life kept happening, and I kept moving forward instead. And I am so glad that I did (move forward).

Yes, in the grand scheme of things moving forward and trying to live better or do better is the best thing you can do.

I know- this sounds cliche, and I have heard this specific suggestion from friends and family whenever I was in deep sh*t and needed uplifting.

Today I am not trying to write some of those age-old cliche lectures on how karma is a b*tch and time heals everything. What goes around, comes around… Blah blah!

Karma is true, though; time heals most things (well, it puts specific painful memories in some locked compartments in our mind) but not everything.

But not trying to get even with the people who either wanted to harm me or got in my way of achieving something was not about karma, nor were they about my feelings. Although my wounds are still there, being the pragmatic person I am, I always let my head lead me.

I did the mental math and played different scenarios in my head, and in most cases, it just seemed counterproductive to get back at people who were against me. The amount of energy one needs to take to plan revenge can be used to transcend that situation by moving forward quickly and effectively. Besides, one needs to look back and live in the past to take revenge, whereas I like my future potential more.

So revenge is self-consuming. Also, it has the potential to add more uncertainties and more risks to already existing miseries.

In difficult situations, getting back at enemies with practical steps is essential. Seeking justice for oneself and others is often a moral duty.

Otherwise, the daily narcissists, sociopaths, passive aggressors, bullies, parasitic leeches, and soul-sucking vultures should be avoided and ignored at all costs.

A new job comes after a job loss, good health (sometimes) comes after bad ones, good fortune comes after the financial crisis, and a good relationship mends a broken heart. And even if people die, they just die, full stop. Perhaps there is a new beginning after death as well.

None of these are the end of anything. Perhaps destroying or ending enemies is not necessarily the goal of taking revenge.

The best revenge is when you gradually make the negative people in your life irrelevant, like they don’t matter- neither to you nor to society.

The first step is effectively seeking justice (if possible) and doing better things than what has been damaged. And the second is to remove these individuals from your life. Sometimes some of these people are your close ones, and it is irresponsible to remove them or ignore them entirely from your life. But at least keep a respectable distance, and even if you give them any entry back into your life, don’t be the same as you were before. Make them realize that what you have been through and your current equation with them is the updated version from past mistakes.

People who harm you, don’t break them back, but you should openly and genuinely talk about your experience so others know what you are going through. Sometimes this is not possible immediately because narcissistic sociopaths are very big about their reputations. But eventually, other people need to learn about them, and words should be spread out so that more people don’t become victims of such aggressors.

Anyway, that’s it for today…

Hopefully, I will bring a new topic for another day.

Good night!

MBTI Type Of Elliot From Mr. Robot

I finished binge-watching Mr.Robot on Amazon Prime all the way from season 1 through season 4 just in a matter of a week. It is a pretty good show, I must say. But one question which got in my mind is what MBTI type Elliot Alderson is? Well, even though I have written MBTI in the title, I would actually elaborate more in terms of Jungian Cognitive Functions on this post.

So spoiler alert (!), as I am about to give away some key points from the storyline. So if you have not watched the show all seasons already, do so before you read this post. So run!

And without any further ado, here we go-

Some people on Quora labeled Elliot as an INTJ.

Both INTJs and INTPs dominate the technical fields and both types are mostly lone wolves. Some of them can have social anxiety. But Cognitive Functions wise, they are vastly different people.

If you wish to learn about Jungian Cognitive Functions, check this answer I wrote on Quora or read my other answers about Jungian Types. You can also ask me questions there.

But let’s get back to the topic.

Well, first of all, he has a Dissociative identity (aka multiple personalities) disorder. So he is perhaps unable to fully utilize his dominant four functions. So even if he is an INTJ, he is not normal.

Out of his two distinctive personalities which co-exist the majority of the time- Elliot (himself) and his ideal parent figure Mr. Robot are INTP and ENTJ respectively. That is the only combo that makes sense to me in terms of cognitive functions. Let me explain to you elaborately:

INTP’s cognitive functions: Ti>Ne>Si>Fe

ENTJ’s cognitive functions: Te>Ni>Se>Fi

So as you can see, ENTJs and INTPs are opposite of each other in terms of cognitive function stacks.

To me, it seems clearly visible that, while his parent figures the imaginary Mr. Robot is the commander in chief, a true competitive go-getter just like an ENTJ should be, Elliot as a child is still quite analytical, hence he is an INTP.

The imaginary Mr. Robot always lectures Elliot about what is practical, at times treats him quite aggressively and even makes important decisions for him or carries out actions (even in his absence of mind). I am not saying that all ENTJs are aggressive like Mr. Robot. But Mr. Robot is too action-oriented to be any other type.

Most INTPs I know are gifted in cybersecurity and computer programming, etc. INTJs are great too, but not in the same way as INTPs are.

INTP’s first two functions are Ti and Ne which enable them to make, break or troubleshoot complex computer security systems.

Also, some fans in Quora and Reddit are saying how he uses Ni, he is a visionary, etc. But what he is using at least as Elliot is Ti. His inner dialogue with himself is Ti focused while what Mr. Robot suggests to him are basically Te (effective actions) out loud.

What this imaginary father-son duo is really good at is deciding what to do and using hacking as a means to get it done, not really at the vision. Because their collective vision as we can learn at different times seems to be proven flawed. Why and how? You have to really watch the show. If I tell you exactly at what point Elliot/Mr. Robots plans/visions seemed flawed and were later tweaked/corrected, then there is no point in watching the show at all. I cannot spoil it that much for you.

Is an INTJ’s vision ever flawed? INTJ’s are Ni- driven. Just like an INTP’s Ti, ENTJ’s Te is on point, an INTJ’s strategic vision is on point too.

Now, towards the end of the show, Krista tells her in his dream that how the mastermind self of Elliot has put the true Elliot in a loop.

Maybe if Elliot’s true self is an INTJ, because of his mental disorder, it has created many different shadow personalities like different windows, which is why his strategy had weaknesses since he even loses memory sometimes.

I know some of you might be thinking that a counter-argument to this is that Elliot is a mentally ill INTJ and his imaginary Mr. Robot is in fact an ENTP (just by going my yin yang father-son duo personality pair logic above). Yes, that is a possibility. But Mr. Robot doesn’t seem very ENTPish, in fact, I thought he is driven for accomplishing goals just like Tyrell Wellick is. Some might label Tyrell as an ENTJ as well, while others as an ISTJ (either way Tyrell is a Te focused achievement-oriented individual).

I read in another blog post that Elliot is an INTJ because of how he tries to discipline himself by putting himself into jail and creating an imaginary facade for a while to get rid of his imaginary Mr. Robot’s personality. But this process at the end doesn’t work! It is the same as if an INTP momentarily tries to frame himself in structure to accomplish something, but in the long run s/he cannot keep up with it since that is not who s/he is ( i.e not a judging type). The only habit which Elliot has autopiloted himself through is hacking almost everyone he comes into contact with to learn their secrets. This part seems like an INTJ thing (since INTJs have a tendency to autopilot through tasks which they believe work for them) but can also be viewed as an INTP Ti-Ne analysis process. Either way, this is a form of defense mechanism for Elliot! Why? Again, TMI. Go watch the show till the end.

If he is an INTJ then his INTJ self might be divided into many different subconscious levels because of his mental health issue.

Do you think an INTJ with ADHD is able to perform at his peak level? Then why would an INTJ with multiple personality disorder be their true INTJ self? Usually, Ne function users are prone to ADHD or multiple personality disorders because Ne function is responsible for the knack of mental exploration. Ne diverges from one point to many possibilities, while Ni converges from many perspectives to one point or a single goal. So while Ne users are prone to ADHD, Ni users (especially INTJ/INFJ) can develop OCD which is quite the opposite of ADHD.

So for now, I would go with “true” Elliot typed as an INTP, and not INTJ.

If you understand Jungian Cognitive Functions- just try to pair the true Elliot and his imaginary guide Mr. Robot as other opposite types which have not been discussed in this blog post.

For example- try to imagine Mr. Robot as an INTJ and Elliot as an ENTP or even ENFP. It doesn’t make sense. You might type Mr. Robot the dad as either INTJ/ENTJ since both are basically intro/extroverted version of each other in terms of cognitive functions, but it doesn’t make sense that Elliot is peppy and spunky like an ENTP/ENFP.

You might say that Elliot might be an INFP (a lost puppy child). INFP is the opposite of ENTJ in terms of letters. But even for a lost puppy child, he seemed pretty on point in terms of logic and skills.

I constantly see him using the Ti function and thinking through everything. So Elliot for me is an INTP. You are welcome to present your argument against mine in the comment section of this post.

Now, who is an INTJ in the show? I think FBI Agent Dipirro is a good example of a female INTJ. She could be an INFJ too, but unlikely. But she is Ni-dominant for sure. The first scene of her breaks out like how she is a lone wolf and secondly, she already connects the dots intuitively ten steps ahead in Romero’s murder scene. She has been correct with her hunches all along. She is alert, honest, driven, and investigative- most of these qualities are INTJ qualities. She also seemed to figure out the entire chain of people behind the five/nine attack and other ongoing E Corp targeted massacre.

If Agent Dipirro or Sherlock Holmes were in Elliot’s place and imagine they had normal mental functions, did they actually have to hack each individual to see what is in their personal records? Or would they already intuitively sense a lot of things about some people?

I am not saying that INTPs have the need to hack someone but INTJs don’t. Both Elliot and Dipirro have problems socializing. But they are dealing with the problems differently using their respective cognitive skills. Over time what worked for Elliot is hacking each person that he comes in contact with because he is not naturally hunch driven. He needs to analyze everything with his Ti. He is mostly lost in his mind due to his disorder. So he auto-piloted himself into certain types of things he normally does, hacking people and when almost getting caught burning any evidence.

If he really is an INTJ though he must have been using his shadow stacks all along since his Ni no longer works well. Since Ni comes with Se in a functional stack. For Ni to work properly one needs to be mindful. So an unhealthy INTJ can be just like him (a confused NT type).

Even the show narrated in a very ADHD (but albeit in a creative) way. The author, as I have read somewhere loosely based on Elliot’s character on his own.

He tied all the loose ends drawing a very detailed picture of the entire narrative. But his writing approach is very similar to how I once learned art in a fine art class. I used to have this hobby sketch/painting class, where the teacher taught me that if I struggle at one point drawing a picture, I should momentarily leave it and come back for it later. And at later attempts, it seemed easier as by now I had gained other perspectives by drawing other parts.

Even if Elliot himself is not an INTJ, the show writer might be a Fi developed INTJ who I am not sure if have had his own personal struggle of mental health issues. Regardless, he did a great job very carefully weaving and crafting the whole story of the show called Mr. Robot on Amazon Prime.

I think the real mastermind here is the show author Sam Esmail. He might be an INTJ, but not Elliot Alderson the protagonist.

Game Of Thrones- Season 8, Episode 3, and Avengers: End Game- What’s the catch!? SPOILER ALERT!!

Disclaimer: If you did not watch any of the aforementioned show/movies in the title, please go ahead and watch them. Because I am about to spill major spoilers ahead!

TL;DR

Grab a drink or some popcorns.

Okay, so I watched GoT Season 8, Episode 3 last Sunday and today (Wednesday) I watched the Endgame in the theater. First of all, I don’t like crowded places. So I always wait until Avengers/Marvel Movies or any good movies stay in the theater for a while. But even on a humpday (in the middle of a week), it was pretty crowded.

I wanted to write a separate series of articles just on GoT season 8. But today I cannot contain myself and I cannot wait until the next Sunday for another GoT episode or for season 8 to be over altogether. By then perhaps a lot of my question will be answered. But, I can update this post then and write other posts.

I am so glad I didn’t watch GoT season 1 through 7 on TV, trying to patiently wait for each Sunday. Instead in 2017, I literally binge-watched GoT all seasons and episodes except season 8 of course (which is airing right now). Hardly anything gets me very excited and gets all my hair raised these days. And thanks to the GoT author, casts, and crews- I had plenty of those goosebumps experience.

But this last Sunday when Season 8 Episode 3 happened, I lost all my words. Battle of Winterfell is the most well-done and beautiful battle I have seen in Game of Thrones. From the very beginning, I was completely glued.

But I just need to point out that Avengers: End Game has been released on April 22, 2019. And Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3 aired on April 28, 2019. I have not read GRRM’s Song Of Ice And Fire, upon which the show is inspired. But how likely it is that the screenwriters of GoT made last minute changes to the script? Maybe not. But is it possible that they somehow knew or had access to End Game’s storyline? Or maybe it is the other way around?

A number of fans are asking where was that “Azor Ahai” reference in the battle of Winterfell as the red witch aka Melisandre referred before. And some are pointing out how it was not Jon Snow, or Dany or anybody else but Arya Stark was being prepared for this very noble cause of killing the Night King in the show.

Probably in the next few episodes, more doubts about this will be cleared. For now, I can’t help but draw some parallels on the key point of both Avenger’s Endgame and GoT, SE08EP3.

First of all in EndGame, when Tony Stark aka Iron man gets a hold of the infinity gunlet and he destroys Thanos and his armies into ashes. The real question is how did he do that when it was clearly in Thanos’ possession? It almost seems like the movie might deliberately didn’t elaborate on this part. But just when Tony gets the emulated gunlet, he looks at Dr. Strange who points his index finger. What does that even mean? I think he helped Iron man in some way. But I did not understand how exactly. And then the movie goes on to a bit of unnecessary drag with other parts, especially with Captain America at the end. I am familiar with this type of storylines after watching many series on Netflix and everywhere. This usually means that there are more to it and will be perhaps cleared in the next installments of Avengers. Because we need to understand exactly what was Dr. Strange doing in that battle scene, or why did he even give the green stone to Thanos in the first place, when he is referred as the best among the Avengers by the Ancient One (his mentor-that bald lady)? There are already several fan theories online stating how he purposely did it because he anticipated there has to be a full-fledged battle against Thanos uniting all the Avengers. Did he also anticipate that they would have to go back in time? Alright! Enough of me spilling all the beans. But you should’ve stopped reading at the beginning if you didn’t watch End Game. Sorry!

Now can we draw a parallel between this and the GoT scene where the Night King is assassinated by Arya? The lady of light aka Melisandre-the red witch seemed to play a pivotal part in that episode. Even though she did a lot of wrongdoing in the past and was rightfully in Arya Stark’s hit list, she did her part to repent in this episode before she died. She helped the Dothraki solders by lighting up their swords with flames which helped kill a lot of white walkers, she also fired up the walls of that Winterfell fortress which created a shield against those deads for a while, and last but not the least she inspired Arya with some wise words which perhaps lead Arya to run where Bran was waiting for the Night King under the red tree.

But the real question here is, out of all the white walkers standing behind the Night King where did Arya come from? It seemed like she jumped out of nowhere. Did she climb up the red tree and was hiding in the branches? Was the Night King exactly under the red-leaved weirwood tree? I didn’t pay attention to it. Someone, please comment. Some people claimed online, Arya could be blending among the white walkers, wearing one of their faces after killing one of them since she is trained as “no one”- which sounds very unlikely. Because I am not sure you can blend among the white walkers being alive, ripping apart and wearing one of their faces. She almost dropped the dagger from one hand and caught coincidentally by another hand before stabbing Night King.

This spoiler showed that she actually did not jump from the tree above but from behind:

You can also read this well-written post, on how sudden this Arya Stark plot twist part was, it also talks about other loopholes in that episode:

Where did Arya jump from? The Game of Thrones battle was riddled with problems

Keep reading till the end for another of my twisting theory.

So the Night King who I assume was made out of ice could not be burned (since Dany could not burn him with dragon fire) but could be punctured and cracked with a pointy Valyrian dagger which is not even a dragon glass? I thought everybody was prepared with dragon glasses, but all it took was just stabbing the Night King with a dagger which not only killed him but took the lives out of all the white walkers at once.

But the parallel I am trying to draw here between the two franchise episodes is basically on a few points.

  1. Tony Stark vs Arya Stark? Same last names? Coincident much? I know it seems lame.
  2. Unclear assassination process both in the End Game and in Got SE8EP03. As if both of these characters were destined to kill the main villain, especially Arya Stark seemed to be chosen by the writers laters. Who read the real book by JRRM- The Song of Ice and Fire? Can anyone tell me, how did the Night King die in the actual novel? How did Tony Stark get a hold of the gunlet when Thanos was still holding it? How did Arya Stark appear in front of the white walkers behind the Night King?
  3. Was Dr. Strange the same to Tony Stark (Iron Man) as what the red witch aka Melisandre was to Arya Stark before they killed their respective villains- which is an influencer? Dr. Strange is a master sorcerer and so is the red witch.
  4. Thanos’ lifeline is connected to his entire army. Similarly, Night King’s lifeline is connected to his entire army of white walkers. Killing them kills their entire teams along with them. Isn’t it too coincidental that two of these major stream of fantasy series almost followed the same idea? Night-King burst into pieces of Ice when stabbed by Arya, along with his white walkers being collapsed simultaneously. Thanos powdered into ashes along with his entire army, when the Iron Man wore the gunlet.

Are you going lunatic by now reading my post? I am sorry if I am bringing too many cross-references. And I also apologize if I am misinformed about certain details or brought some wrong terms. Please provide your opinions, ideas and correct me in the comment section.

*Peace*

EDIT: I finished watching episode 4 of Got Season 8. I think the next episode will be about the war against Cercei, so the show might won’t have much time to go into detail about how Arya did it. But I will still keep you guys posted if there is anything new related to this.

So here we come about the last theory. I don’t know if you guys remember anything from Season 5 where Arya Stark was being trained as an assassin in the city of Bravos. There was the last scene (I forgot the episode) where Arya was just about to be killed in the dark cave where the light goes off. But instead in the next few episodes, we see Arya survived, meaning she was able to kill that girl. Is it possible that Arya is not the real Arya Stark but that other girl from that Bravos Training camp, posing as Arya wearing Arya’s mask who possesses supernatural skills of going invisible or appearing in places out of nowhere? Her only purpose is to fulfill Arya’s mission to avenge the people who did wrong to her/her families. Or did Arya learn a lot more than just killing and face shifting people in that weird place of Bravos defying the laws of physics?

Check this link from the past written around the time when this episode from season 5 aired:

I HAVE A CRAZY GAME OF THRONES THEORY—AND I’LL BET IT’S RIGHT

EDIT: No that theory is not right actually. You got what you saw. At least this is how it went for the last few episodes. You can read this:

Game Of Throne Season Finale Honest Review- (SPOILER ALERT!!)

Subscribe To T-Series Please! And Why Not?

This post had been collecting dust for months in my drafts section. I was thinking about writing on this PewDiePie Vs T-series Youtube Subscription battle fiasco back in December 2018. The reason why I retracted from this a couple of times is that I never wished to make my blogs about entertainments stuff, especially I never wanted to write about PewDiePie.  If you have read my other contents and my avatar description then you will find out that I just casually write here about lame paranormal/metaphysical/intellectual/psychological topics. But my blog name is “My World“, so I guess there is always room for everything.

I do know a few things already before anyone points this out to me-

T-Series is a giant Indian Music label, they are not in direct competition against PewDiePie or anyone. They are just doing their thing, making music, making videos and uploading them in their YouTube Channel. YouTube is one of their many media outlets and only a small portion of their overall income comes from YouTube. The fact that PewDiePie is able to hold his position over them this long is a miracle and not the other way around. It is just that most of the western world didn’t know about T-Series or most of the other Indian music channels up until more recently. So thanks to PewDiePie! Because the more he cries about this subscription race, the more viewership T-Series gets from all over the world.

I know T-Series does not need my help or any individual’s help to promote their music to win this battle. PewDiePie is trying to use any help that he can get. T-Series does not even need to do a fraction of all these if they wish to stay on the top. So good for PewDiePie that people are coming to his rescue – it has become like that ice-bucket challenge type trend.

I also do know that most people are trying to support PewDiePie as an individual content creator against a giant corporation, and since YouTube was predominantly about individual creators. But honestly, if it was about another individual Youtuber (not Logan Paul or his brother or any other racist douches) vs T-Series, I might go with the other person as long as this person created positive contents free of negativity, racial slurs, and other garbage. In that regard, PewDiePie is a f**king scumbag. He showed traits of psycho/sociopathy frequently in his content (I do not know about his childhood background, so cannot narrow it down) with a high level of narcissism.

First of all his contents (even with a lot of added variety) is still pretty bland. It is tiring to see him in his !399 chair playing games or making animated meme review in fake American(ish) Swedish accent, and every once in a while accidentally (!?) blurting racist/sexist/derogatory remarks. I don’t have time to list all the resources here to show what I mean. All the 9 years old armies (Pewd fans) out there, you can easily find out what I am talking about. He is not necessarily that great. I don’t even know why people like him. He is entertaining but not deserving of his current most subscribed Youtuber position.

T-Series or any music label of a similar kind produce high-quality content. They add a variety of entertainment minus all the unintentional (but completely intentional) viciousness of people like PewDiePie. I am not Indian, but I find PewDiePie’s diss track on T-Series very offensive to all Indians (not trying to promote his garbage, hence not linking it). I know, even some Indians on Quora claiming that those lines in the lyrics are sarcasm, blah blah, etc and PewDiePie donated to some Indian charity to show his philanthropic side after dissing T-Series/India. But it seems more like a white dude trying to help some poor people from a third world country because obviously, he is not racist- he just jokes all the time!

I still would not speak about all these as I didn’t care. But finally, I have to break the silence after seeing Elon Musk hosting meme review for PewDiePie! Really!? I have huge respect for Mr. Elon Musk as one of the most innovative serial entrepreneurs of our generation. In fact, I frequently write about him on Quora. But a while ago he was sharing an Indian song From Eros Now on Twitter from The movie Bajirao Mastani. and now he hosted meme review for PewDiePie. I think we have had enough proof of how erratic Elon Musk can be from the year 2018. It could all be part of his business strategies- meaning, he does all these different varieties of stuff for more attention catering all kinds of the public and young generation, or he is going through some kind of mid-life crisis. People might find him dynamic, hip hop and cool- smoking pot on a show, exhibiting his love for anime/comics/game, etc, but I seriously find him childish and unsettling. I think this meme review thing helps his image more than PewDiePie. He is probably not even taking any side but doing this sort of things from a purely promotional point of view- at one point he is targetting Indians showing his love for a Hindi Movie song –spurring speculations about his next business move, at another hand he is hosting meme review targetting the huge 9-year-old army or PewDiePie fans (predominantly younger generation) audience. He wants to keep an image of the most “hip-star hop-star” entrepreneur that ever existed. Nothing is wrong with that, except it is alarming! Elon Musk’s behavior is worrisome. Again I am not linking that video, you can search for it on YouTube if you wish to find it.

But don’t worry, all the 9-year-old armies of PewDiePie! Just because Elon Musk tried to help, it won’t bring any significant boost to PewDiePie’s subscription number. Well, it did for the first few days, but the subscription gap will diminish and T-Series soon will overtake (if God is willing). In other words, this effort of Elon Musk will tank just like his last year’s effort of making an impractical submarine to rescue some cave victims (and you might remember his tacky fiasco with the diver guy calling him a “pedo”). When you do something purely for your own image branding purpose, it at the end helps no one, including yourself. Maybe Elon Musk already realized this truth that PewDiePie will be overtaken but trying to help him can at least make him look good.

So if a guy as busy as Elon Musk (who works 100-120 hours a week saving the world and mankind) can take the time to promote PewDiePie doing meme reviews, then why can’t an ordinary mere mortal like me spare a few spaces on her site to promote T-Series? I love T-Series, I grew up watching T-Series content. I will watch them any day over some gamers. Isn’t it enough for me to promote them? I know they do not need my assistance. But I will still do it. Maybe we can all do it.

Let’s start by sharing one of their recent songs. The beat is sick! I love it. I will share more in the next few posts.

Feel free to comment and share your thoughts below.

EDIT: Since I have written this post many things happened following PewDiePie vs T-Series feud. Long story short, T-Series just posted Pitbull feat Guru Randhawa song “Slowly Slowly” which is getting many views. T-Series is getting a lot of international attention. Check out the song below:

Is Twitter A Career Killer?

“Is Twitter a career killer?”– before asking this question we should try to understand why celebrities use Twitter? Well, perhaps mostly to increase their “brand value” or “individual value as a brand” by staying closely connected with the current affairs. Now, there are a number of tech entrepreneurs who either do not have or care to use Twitter very frequently. They might be considered old school but their establishments do not quite depend on their reputation or popularity. Moreover, some people like to stay out of trouble with media gossip by keeping their personal opinions private. We talk about “freedom of speech” but no one talks about the consequences of such a privilege. Giving too much information (TMI) through a continuous conversation or making bold frank remarks has caused a lot of people negative publicity in their career on public platforms.

Our “beloved” President Donald J. Trump is in the news quite often for being too impulsive and giving TMI on Twitter. However, (perhaps following the same footsteps) the person who has been completely insane on Twitter this year is none other than Elon Musk. No other CEO’s company finance depends so much on their own personal reputation as Elon Musk’s reputation does. His recent “pedo” comments and a false (rather unofficial) claim like “funding secured” for Tesla going private have been causing Tesla stock a lot of misfortune. He is almost losing his position as a chairman from the board as of right now.

And those are just two of the basic examples of his recent tweets. I am already assuming you guys have heard about the whole fiasco with him recently, so I’m not elaborating on that. But why is he behaving so erratic lately? It might be due to his workload. After all, trying to achieve too many ultra-ambitious goals simultaneously is hard even for a superhuman type genius like Elon. But it could also be that he is deliberately trying to get out of Tesla’s board. He is overwhelmed and bored with it.

I am not going to question his mental state or the reason for his recent eccentric behavior. But I think people are also putting undue weight on their personal conduct more than the service which he provides to society. Everyone is turning to behave police for him as if each and everyone is a prophet themselves. This is another perspective of the corporate monkey story where Elon Musk is the proven trailblazer monkey in town and all the old monkeys are waiting to drag him down with every opportunity they can get.

So don’t make a bad tweet today, the world does not have the capacity to hear your brutal honesty or crude sarcasm in the name of “freedom of speech”. And especially if you are a potential outlier, be ready to be heavily scrutinized by society.

keep calm

EDITING TO ADD: Despite having a rough year (2018) Tesla has proven to be profitable, putting all the naysayers to rest (well, at least for a while). I should say, this experience has been part of Elon Musk’s personal learning curve.

Top Writer 2018 on Quora

Quora's top writer 2018.PNG

What’s up everyone!? It’s been a lo-o-o-ng time since I had written something here in this blog, because I am very very busy in real life. This year particularly has been off to a great start. As if I have woken up in a parallel reality where I am my best productive version.

I got a promotion at work, started a new entrepreneurial venture which I am not openly talking about, and this thing at Quora…

I have been an avid writer at Quora since a very long time. And if I remember it correctly, I have been writing since my college sophomore days. Even before, I became one of the Most Viewed Writers in topics related to electrical engineering, computer engineering, academic and college/career advice. These topics are heavily niche based at Quora. Although there are many Q&A from many writers from around the world, the academic/STEM community is not that big compared to the vast majority of the generic topics.

And I never actually cared that I am only focusing on my specific areas and not generating enough likes or popularity. I go to Quora to read other people’s opinion more than I would like to write. I write in a very casual, (sometimes with slapstick humor) and no-nonsense manner. My writing style is very direct, much like how I am as a person in real life.

I do try my level best to provide information and share a new perspective when I find it is necessary. Because I believe that is the true purpose of a knowledge based community like Quora.

The only thing which has changed in the last couple of years is that I have written a lot of answers about Jungian Cognitive Functions/MBTI and particularly about the INTJ personality type being one myself. It is still heavily a niche based area, but Quora has a massive following of INTJ related Q&A.

As of right now, I had almost written a thousand answers on Quora. So it is not clearly stated in the above notice of Quora’s March 2018 Top Writer Email, exactly which of my answers made more contribution. So I won’t take a guess. There are far too many popular writers at Quora who generate thousands of upvotes from one simple answers. My contribution thus might have been the little value I have been trying to add in the STEM and Jungian Quora community.

Sometimes life surprises me with things I have no expectation of. This top writer thing is one of them. I probably won’t subscribe to the NY Times, won’t buy any Quora gear or go to any top writer meetups. But I still take a bit pleasure thinking that I have a top writer badge on my profile for this year.

So I just want to say thanks to the Quora community for selecting me as one of the top writers this year, also to fellow Quorans for reading my answers and the followers for following me.

Four Points Career Goal Guide for INTJ Personality Type

Four Points Career Goal Guide for INTJ Personality Type

I have introduced the basic framework before, which I am about to refer to – in this blog post. So if you have not read it, check this post first:

Four Points Career Goal Guide For All (MBTI) Myers Briggs Personality Types

Hopefully, I will write this type of posts for all types eventually. But because I am an INTJ personality type myself, I thought it is better to start with INTJ.

So without any further ado, here it is-

INTJ’s Cognitive Functions:

Ni>Te>Fi>Se

When it is interpreted in terms of our 4 point model it becomes:

Autonomy(Ni)<Mastery(Te)<Impact(Fi)<Recognition(Se)

INTJ

Now, this order is not the same for everyone, which means that some might reach mastery before autonomy, or recognition before impact etc.

But the main idea of this model is, one of these 4 points is the most important to you according to your primary or talent function and the second or auxiliary function is the key to success because it is a growth function.

Usually, 1st and 2nd functions make about 90% of your personality and you reach your full potential when you develop your third and fourth function.

INTJs are forward-thinking, insightful, visionary, original, big picture driven and independent due to their first Ni aka perspective function. So naturally, they should seek careers which enable them to exercise their autonomous traits. Usually, people work up the ladder to reach autonomy in their careers. But INTJs are well-equipped with this trait! So listen up fellow INTJs, we gotta learn how to take calculative risks and turn our out-of-the-box ideas into reality. In fact, we should actually make them happen, which brings us to the next part.

INTJ’s second function is Te aka effectiveness. An ideal INTJ with a fully developed and exercised Te function knows how to get sh*t done and builds a track record of accomplishing great things. A lot of INTJs, due to being introverted, struggle with making their ideas into reality. So INTJs should gain mastery of bringing ideas into reality in the most effective way possible. That mastery may or may not be about a certain skill but rather should be about whatever needs to be done to accomplish a goal. INTJs are prone to learn and do everything on their own, which is great. I believe in that approach since I want to lead by example and I should know how to do certain things myself so that I can gain insight into the big picture and hence can lead better. But we have to remember that we should do things which makes an impact in a larger way and for that as INTJs we have to learn to inspire and guide others better. Speaking of making an impact, brings us to our next point.

Yes, INTJs are the jack-of-all-trades. They can get anything done, whatever they put their minds and hearts into. But it is also important that they do things which are valuable to them according to their own authentic (Fi) standards. Because that will help bring quality in a product or service. For example, this blog post is intended to help other INTJs maximize their career potentials but I have also written it because I am a Jungian Cognitive Function Enthusiast. As an engineering professional, I do things keeping the end goal or product in mind but that product or goal is also authentic to me. INTJs are better equipped to positively impact humanity by making a quality product or service. And the best part is when the lone wolf INTJ learns how to work with others or lead a team to make big things happen.

The last one is recognition. Some might define Te as recognition in terms of achievements but I am referring to the finer materialistic things in life here. INTJs are among the least sensory people due to their inferior Se function but they do have fine taste in things which bring sensory gratifications. Ni/Fi function influences that aspect too. But INTJs rightfully deserve the name, fame, money, property etc after all the hard work they put. But INTJs should be careful not to overindulge or become ruthless in seeking materialistic means only.

Thanks for reading…

I hope you enjoyed.

I will try to write a similar type of posts for other types in the near future. Stay tuned.

There is a part two:

Four Points Career Goal Guide For All (MBTI) Myers Briggs Personality Types

Four Points Career Goal Guide For All (MBTI) Myers Briggs Personality Types

Hello everyone! Today we are going to discuss how any MBTI type “should” set his/her career goals.

You perhaps have heard about Dan Pink’s Three Pillars of Performance:

Where he talks about these key terms in motivating people:

Autonomy.

Mastery.

 Purpose.

Sure! That sounds like a good plan for motivating employees for higher performance, but let me re-purpose this plan for setting a career goal. And that plan includes-

Autonomy.

Mastery.

Impact.

Recognition.

Each one of us might prioritize these 4 points in a different order. But the intention is to eventually (if not simultaneously) reach all these aspects in our careers.

Jungian Cognitive function order for all types:

Primary (talent)> Secondary (growth) > Tertiary >Inferior

Now, you have to take these  four main functions of each personality type and somehow use them to fit into the 4 point model. How you do it, it is entirely up to you. This is how I envision the model, where the intuitive functions lead to autonomy, thinking functions lead to mastery, feelings to (positive) impact and sensing to recognition:

Ni (Perspective) and Ne (Exploration) —> Autonomy

Ti (Accuracy) and Te (Effectiveness) —> Mastery

Fi (Authenticity) and Fe (Harmony) —> Impact

Si (Memory) and Se (Sensation) —>Recognition

*Perspective (Ni) generates insightful vision and exploration of ideas (Ne) leads to innovation. Thus, if you are capable of seeing the future and innovate new ways- you are capable to lead. That’s why, a leader is independent or autonomous.

*Accuracy (Ti) is important for critical analysis of theory and data. Effectiveness (Te) is important for process efficiency. If you can do anything with accuracy and efficiency, you have reached the mastery level.

*Authenticity (Fi) is pivotal in bringing quality and setting standard guidelines. Harmony (Fe) is vital for the greater goods of the people and societies. If you can add value to yourselves or others through high quality product or service, or if you can bring harmony, compassion and kindness in others lives then you are positively making an impact.

*Memory (Si) helps categorizing and sensation (Se) helps experiencing life through real data at the present moments. So you gain good reputations by keeping a track record of great professional achievements. You also experience life through materialistic means such as money, property and good health etc.

INTJ Daily Communication Hack

INTJ COMMUNICATION HACK

What’up everyone! This is that long promised article. Today I am going to give a communication hack for us INTJs in our own robotic way. Yes! We systematize everything. While other MBTI types laugh at us, why don’t we automate ourselves through the difficult process of dealing with fellow humans on a daily basis?

So without any further ado, let’s get started-

There are two basic sections of this diagram.

  1. How to perceive.
  2. How to judge.

  1. Perceive the world (Ni<–>Se): The dominant introverted intuition (Ni) aka perspective function takes so much of INTJs’ brain power that they forget to live in the moment because of their inferior Extroverted sensing (Se) function aka sensation. But you cannot completely unleash the potential of Ni without the help of Se. Being mindful is very important but challenging for INTJs.

Best case scenario is when you have mastered the technique of Ni and Se simultaneously in a closed feedback loop.

What is Ni?

Copying from one of my own Quora post-

“Ni is the insightful vision. Ni gives you an initial hunch and later it reveals itself by connecting the dots between different things. It is like putting the puzzle pieces together in a big picture frame.”

For INTJs Se collects data from the present reality and feeds it back to Ni. And in return, Ni finds meaningful connections between the data and tells you what to specifically watch out for to find the patterns and trends among things.

2. Taking effective action based on the perception (Fi<–>Te):

“The motto is to say or do things which are useful”.

So once INTJs get positive signal from their perceiving functions they should express themselves using their personal values and judgement (Introverted Feeling – Fi aka authenticity function).

But the catch is -that they should fake it as Extroverted Feeling (Fe) to sound more harmonious. This is actually the life saving part of this communication hack.

INTJs are known for being blunt and direct. They are not people pleaser by nature. But at least sounding polite and humble can help INTJs build and retain meaningful relationships in life. The trick is to put your best intentions forward.

And when INTJs do have to take action they will only do things which are effective for them and others, using their Extroverted Thinking (Te) aka effectiveness functions. Developing this growth/auxiliary function can help INTJs become really successful in the long run. Te is the key of achievements for them.

3. Lastly, if INTJs get bad data from their perceiving functions then majority of the petty problems -such as rude comments, stupidity, ignorance, passive aggressiveness can be ignored or be tackled with positive sarcasm.

Now if there are negative circumstances which you (as an INTJ) MUST tackle, please DO NOT react at the spur of the moment. Instead use the combination of your Ni and Te functions to take measurable actions. This part is not covered in the diagram because INTJs are by nature strategists. They should use their strategy to be diplomatic when required. They just have to take human emotions into consideration for effective conflict resolution.

Science or Pseudoscience: Jungian Cognitive Functions (Part 2)

* This is my personal blog and the views expressed here are purely subjective. I hope to write on this topic in several parts to shed light on how I am “strategically” using Jungian concepts in my personal development with a unique creative approach. My personal findings, opinion, and insights might help others who are on the same journey with me.

I have described in the first part that despite being a skeptic, I am using Jung’s Cognitive Functions as a temporary tool in my personal development. And I also went in depth about my own personality type and the confusion of myself being miss-typed as some other type. In later parts, I will describe my own personal model. But today I would like to address a few aspects which usually are in question.

We know that many psychologists debunk or refuse MBTI types. They question the validity or the credentials of MBTI tests because Myers and Briggs (mom and daughter duo) did not have any professional psychology background. They designed the tests based on Carl Jung’s Cognitive Functions Theory (who himself never tested it). They came up with a questionnaire which is too “leading”. I do agree with the flaws of those typical questions.

That’s why psychologists prefer some other type testing like the Big Five Personality tests which are too vague IMHO. In that regard, whether the whole “psychology” major is science or pseudoscience-that is even a bigger question. Sorry psychologists!

I am more into neuroscience than psychology.  Hence, I am more prone to investigate the validity of Cognitive Functions Theory than the MBTI tests.

But Dario Nardi is working on some meaningful research on cognitive functions. You can go to this forum and click those “spoiler” buttons to find his research findings:

And now you make up your mind. Is it science or pseudoscience?
